Citizen of the Year Data

Elizabeth’s dedication to our community and beyond blows me away. Her beach clean ups, her dedication to her role as councilwoman and snowman at the annual tree lighting, as well as being apart of most events held around town. She does all of this while being a college instructor at night and an MFLAC during the day. Her dedication to those who need us most and her concern for the mental well being of our youth and families is remarkable! She has many hats and she wears them well! I think she would be a wonderful citizen of the year for the Town of Steilacoom.

Volunteers at several community events from Farmer’s Market to Beach Clean up, FOSL, Historic society events, 4th of July parade, Christmas tree lighting and parade, Apple Squeeze. Attends events throughout Pierce County that have a direct effect on the Town of Steilacoom.

Overall involvement in the community and his contagious positive spirit motivates everyone to do great things within our community.

Mike Henderson is truly an unsung hero of the club. Mike makes each meeting better by getting to the PDC at an ungodly hour to open doors and get that crucial coffee pot going. He coordinates food for the meeting attendees, another perk for members. Mike can be seen doing any heavy work for all the projects the Kiwanians undertake. From coordinating several aspects of the annual WineFest (transportation, coffee service, cleanup), to collecting and selling Cans for Camp, to helping with each event, Mike is always there, with his energy, enthusiasm and can do attitude. Because he is such an eternal presence, I fear he never gets recognized for his unwavering support of all our club does. It would be lovely to recognize his efforts by naming him Citizen of the Year.

There hasn't been a single Kiwanis event I remember that Mike hasn't volunteered for with time and sweat equity. Always happy and helping, he gives of himself year round to the Town of Steilacoom.

Kiwanian of the Year last year when it was SHMA’s turn to choose Citizen of the Year. Had it been our turn, he would have been COTY already. He is faithful to help coordinate breakfasts for every meeting. He sets up the meetings when in town. He is a big help for the 5K/1M walk stroll. He helps with the can collection. Transported tons of auction items for the WineFest. Worked on the band stand. Worked on the pavilion at Sunnyside beach.

Jan is can active Kiwanian, chairing the Easter Egg hunt, board member, and regular attendee at weekly meetings. She is involved with Winefest, usually helping coordinate table decorations. Outside of Kiwanis, Jan is a weekly volunteer at the Catholic Senior meals site at the Community Center, helping to prep meals, set up, and clean afterwards. Jan is a docent and general helper at SHMA. She also volunteers for the Salmon Bake, Apple Squeeze, Fireworks Committee fund raising. Jan volunteers for the We Love Steilacoom food bank. She is a part of the volunteer group maintaining the Lafayette St. planting bump outs. Jan is active with her church, and a financial supporter of a variety of charitable organizations such as the turkeys for military families, and the Boy Scouts. Jan is one of those quiet people who if you need something done, she will raise her hand to help.

Always there early to assist the opening each week of the Kiwanis Club Works many hours repairing items at the SHMA facilities Works all day assisting the National Drive Electric Steilacoom festival every year. Active in his homeowners association KIwanis POC for the Union Street cleanup

Head of the Education Committee. Highly organized: notes, handouts, agendas, Communication: in person with members and community, great at electronic communication with ALL. Creativity: visits other museums and brings back new ideas for the hands-on portion of our museum. Mentor: is a consummate retired teacher. She brings many people skills as well as lesson planning and curriculum development. Always enthusiastic about making changes and upgrading what we are part of. An enthusiastic Kiwanis member. She is very positive and enthusiastic about ALL that our Steilacoom chapter does for our community. I am a new member. I am sure there are many years of her accomplishments that I am not aware of. I enthusiastically nominate Jody Snyder.

Karen Williamson has been a great supporter of my Transition program offering students a weekly opportunity to learn animal care, job skills, and gardening. She also extends welcome to Cherrydale students to visit, and hosts a Halloween Open House for community members to stop in and visit the animals & get a treat.

Karin own the Good Grace Farm in Steilacoom. She has had helped numerous children in the area. She has had numerous classes from Cherrydale visit the farm. She has open the farm to special needs program that teaches students to work. She has the heart of gold! My grandchildren have grown in such a positive way by being able to help at the farm. She has given them free horse riding lessons. She has 8 children of wich 3 are adopted. She has a busy life but always finds time to help a child in need. She is an amazing woman. A true example of what makes Steilacoom a great town. It is the people!
